Social Media : an inside look!

Social Media: love it or hate it, you gotta have it! Today on the blog, I wanted to give a bit of inside info on my choices for social media usage & the why behind it. It’s important to decide early on in your journey through the social networks what is important & why. The list can definitely be overwhelming & if you don’t have the funds to hire a social manager, it can feel impossible unless you are strategic.

Social Network Platform: Facebook
How often I post: 1x per week
Why it’s worth it for me: Fantastic if you’re trying to target a specific audience, & have budgeted for the pay to play. Provides ability to target ads via geographic location, audience age or gender, etc. which is definitely worth it for me!

Social Network Platform: Instagram
How often I post: 2-3x per week
Why it’s worth it for me: It’s a photography based app, which works well for what I do. Has a “live”/story option which helps me to connect to people in authentic ways while still being photo journalistic in nature. I will regularly share insta-stories of what daily life looks like, mixed with some plugs for things I’m doing/working on. My main feed is usually stories from the field with higher quality images.

Social Network Platform: LinkedIn
How often I use: Semi-regularly
Why it’s worth it for me: Helps me connect with people in orgs that I want to work with! Not too regular on here, but it is interesting & easy to find new people in the field or partnerships I want to pursue. LinkedIn also makes it really easy to find the correct person to chat with in a company!!

Social Network Platform: Youtube
How often I post: 1x per week
Why it’s worth it for me: It’s important for me to walk the talk & I do that the best on youtube, I think. There you’ll find specific videos about relevant topics in my personal field. This is a no brainer for a photographer/videographer but may be less necessary in other fields.

You will see that I have narrowed my presence on social networks to 4. The other big ones, Pinterest // Snapchat // TikTok // Twitter all seem too far away from the field that I am trying to target relationships from. The ones I would potentially consider are Twitter & Pinterest if I had the staff & wanted to put extra energy into a broader social reach, but it seems like unique content wouldn’t be created for these, just shared to it. I’d rather focus my energy & efforts on creating unique content for 4 networks rather than having a minimal presence on all of them.

The other way I connect with others is through this blog. Some people feel blogs are antiquated, but I really try to think through what is helpful to others, & interesting to read. What blog topics are you wanting to see? Leave a comment or DM me on Instagram (@simoneisenbach)!
