Gear Talk | Shimoda Design x70 w/ XL DV core unit for ski filmmaking

Something I’ve learned over the years is that there is no such thing as “the perfect camera bag” for every situation. Much to my partner’s dismay that has turned me into quite the bag collector. That being said, there IS such a thing as the perfect camera bag ecosystem… and THAT is Shimoda Designs.

I’ve been using their products since the fall of 2019 when I took the Explore 40 v1 to Ethiopia for a project & fell in love. While the Action x50 is my go-to bag for anything with my mirrorless cameras, it just didn’t quite fit what I needed when it came to carrying around a kitted Fx6 while filming the Higher Ground series for The Journal of Lost Time.

Thankfully I already owned the Action x70 as well which gave me the ideal amount of space for carrying around more/bigger equipment. All I needed to get it perfectly set up was the XL DV core unit… the biggest one they make, and set up perfectly to fit the Fx6 w/ 100-400 f4-5.6 mounted. This allowed me to very quickly move around the resorts while filming & keeping camera gear safe.
