WHY Video?
Today, I hope to open the discussion boards up for one of my favorite topics: VIDEO. Obviously, video is more time consuming & more expensive than other types of marketing options. Fortunately for videographers, (& unfortunately for others), video just isn’t an optional marketing tool anymore. The average internet user watches 186 videos on average each month (Comscore).
I’ll turn your attention to some recent findings in the video/marketing world. The stats on video in the digital marketing space are impressive: The State of Video Marketing 2019 (linked below) shows that 87% of marketing professionals use video as a marketing tool (Wyzowl, 2019). (up from 63% just two years ago) This is not shocking to me, as the rise of social media has tuned our preferences for information intake to be more engaging than simply text.
The average user also spends 88% more time on a website with video (Forbes, 2018). In a society that feeds off of a “more, now” mentality, text-only websites are very antiquated & clients need to see information in a variety of ways rather than just one. With that said, where both video and text are available on the same page, 72% of people would rather use video to learn about a product or service (Wyzowl, 2018). Therefore, limiting the amount of text on screen to just important concepts may be a great next step for those wanting to increase traffic to their websites. With the rise of social media influences and generations of millennials, images & video are what captivates audiences, not so much text.
Also, and possibly most importantly, viewers are 95% more likely to remember a call to action after watching a video, compared to 10 percent when reading it in text format (Forbes, 2017). So, specifically for the areas of marketing the require purchases, donations, or sign ups, a video increases the likelihood of the investment.
83% of marketers say video gives them a good ROI (up from 78% in 2018.) As video professionals, it is important to explain the investment & how wide spread it can truly be. By explaining these facts to potential customers and clients, your credibility increases and with it, so does the value of your work! From that same study, 99% of marketers will continue to use video in 2019, with 88% saying they’ll spend more money on efforts. This is great news for those of us who are contributing to the video marketing field! With staggering statistics like these, it would be surprising that any brand isn’t spending a more conscious effort to provide high quality video content.
I really love looking into the facts like these & the data behind them. If this kind of information interests you, definitely check out the links or start up a conversation!
