Marketing | Moving from Traditional to Digital
If COVID19 reaffirmed anything to this world, it’s that technology is a MUST. As we're all continually adapting to limited access to others, there's no better time than now to start a conversation on how to best present yourself. Here are some things to consider as you move from traditional marketing to digital marketing.
1. Be intentional.
Screen fatigue is a real thing now that school is online, church is online, and social interaction is also online. The people who listen to you will be so thankful that you’re not releasing information for the sake of releasing it. Make sure that whatever you’re committing to & asking others to commit to is worth everyone’s time. This means potentially creating a more elaborate project rather than less elaborate one more often. It may mean a zoom call/class on actionables, rather than just for a hangout purpose weekly. It also may mean contacting clients when they're ready to purchase rather than multiple times before a sale. Loosening those reigns may seem scary, but the overwhelm is real.
2. Bite off only what you can chew.
It’s clear that many of us have to do new things in order to keep up with the trends. However, trying all the things without ample learning & rest times only is cause for burnout & disaster ahead. As creatives, it’s important to find a balance of work & rest to really take care of yourself & ensure your best work is being created. One great area that we can benefit from in creative work is that in this line of work, accountability is relatively easy to find. Ask others in your field what they're doing, what's worked & what hasn't. A simple conversation can save you a lot of time in the long run!
3. Leave room for innovation.
In previous posts we have talked about attention span. This pandemic has done nothing but further decreased the span of time any given person can focus on anything. My suggestion here would be to try to plan to innovate. The change up keeps it fresh & helps people remain interested in what you’re putting out there. Also, it creates an urgency to stay in the know with your brand. This takes some intentional work up front, but the payout is really invaluable.
4. Be authentic.
Because everything is changing, there definitely is a temptation to change what you're doing or what you've always done. Some of that is needed, & it will help push/challenge you. Be careful though, because if you change too much, you could be sacrificing your authenticity- which is very easy for your followers/clients to spot... sometimes it's easier for THEM to spot it than for you to. Make sure you have some consistent voices giving you feedback even on your innovations/changes!
